iOS 6 coming to iPad this fall with new features but will not support the original iPad

Apple today has announced the latest version of its operating systems for the iPad (iPhone and iPod Touch), the iOS6. Available this fall, iOS6 promises to bring in more great features that will extend the capabilities of the iPad 2 and of course the new iPad (or iPad 3).iOS6 will be available as a free software update.
Among the many new features of iOS6, Apple is topbilling this with the all new Maps app which includes Apple-designed cartography, turn-by-turn navigation and Flyover view. The all new Maps app for iPad employs vector-based map elements that make graphics and text smooth, and panning, tilting and zooming incredibly fluid. It will have a new turn-by-turn navigation that will guide you to your destination with spoken directions. Plus the Flyover view will have photo-realistic interactive 3D views. Other features of the new iPad map apps include – real-time traffic information, and local search information for more than 100 million businesses with info cards with Yelp ratings, reviews and deals and photos.

Another exciting new feature that iOS6 will bring to the iPad is the much-hyped SIRI. SIRI on iOS6 on your iPad will support more languages including Spanish, Italian, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese. It will also be optimized for use in 15 countries. But more importantly, with SIRI on your iPad, you can now ask for the latest sports score, make restaurant reservations, update your Facebook status, post to Twitter or launch app. It also has the new Eyes Free mode which enables you to use your iPad using your voice.

IM+ 6.3 version brings improved battery life and support for more IM services

Like to avoid awkward real-life situations by pretending you’re busy and playing with your smartphone instead? Then it’s likely you’re quite familiar with IM+ for Android already. The ever popular instant messaging app has been updated by its developer, with one major revision being a significant improvement of battery usage.

Other features include a new message queue, which will queue all your messages if the network is down and automatically send them once it’s back up. Then there’s the option to set a master password for all of your accounts, grouping of accounts by contact list, preview for images and videos right in chat window, and more.

Version  6.3 of IM+ also comes with several new IM services, as it now supports mig33, SINA Weibo, Mamba Ru, and Fetion. No, we didn’t make up those names. Other oldies include support for Facebook Chat, MSN/Live Messenger, Google Talk, Yahoo!, AIM/iChat, ICQ, RenRen, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki Ru, Yandex IM, and Mail.Ru Agent. Skype, unfortunately, is only supported in the Pro version of IM+, which costs $4.99. If you already downloaded the regular version, you can simply make an in-app purchase to add Skype support.

IM+ also has an in-app messenger named Beep, which works across platforms (Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Windows Phone), in case you don’t find the many options of IM services listed above to be enough.  Check out the app on Google Play Store to start chit-chatting away.

Evernote for Android 4.1 comes with improved tablet interface and specific Nexus 7 support

The Evernote note-taking app for Android has been extremely popular for more than just a while, but the updates and tweaks haven’t come as frequently as they have on iOS. However, the trend seems to be changing and we’re excited to announce the second major Evernote update in just two months.
After pushing the app to version 4.0 back in May, developers have now released Evernote 4.1. That means we’re still a bit behind iOS users, who’ve been enjoying version 4.2.2 for a while, but the gap is closing in fast.

While it does come with a slightly more modest changelog than the update to 4.0 from May, the most recent Evernote tweak is a significant one and will make a huge difference especially for Android tablet users. They will surely enjoy the redesigned interface, the “sleek new home screen” designed to improve the user experience on larger screens, and the introduction of swipe interactions that are promised “to dramatically improve navigation through the app”.Moreover, there are a few strictly cosmetic updates too, making the “Note List” look much better than before.

Another change specifically targeted to tablet users is the introduction of a “Tablet List View”, which is a compact list showing all the basic information about a note. I know, it doesn’t sound like a “critical” update, but it will most likely improve Evernote’s productivity and ease of use even further.

As you might already suspect, these tablet-oriented updates and tweaks are not coincidentally coming right as we all eagerly await our Nexus 7 orders to be fulfilled. In fact, the app’s developers specifically mention that Evernote 4.1 will work “beautifully” on Google’s new 7-incher.

Android smartphone users haven’t been left out of the mix either, and Evernote 4.1 has brought a series of updates for “all Android users”. These are pretty minor and not very numerous, but the additional levels introduced to bulleted and numbered lists are a very nice touch.
You can try out the new Evernote app for Android for free on Google Play, and please don’t forget to drop us a comment below and let us know what you think of the update.
